Hamstring muscles are located at the back of the knee. Increased spasticity due to strained muscles behind the knee disturb walking biomechanics and cause a series of problems that may lead to squat walking, hump and hip dislocation. Upon evaluation of the paediatric orthopaedist, hamstring tenotomy is practiced by relaxing the muscles at the back of the knee. There’s an operation scar roughly 2 cm around the knee area.
Cast or devices can be applied after the operation, based on the decision of your doctor. Patients that have the e ability to walk before the operation can walk after the operation with support. Please refer to cast problems sections for cast related questions. Medicine prescribed after being discharged shall be used and polyclinic visits at days 10 and 21 shall be followed.
